The eris@ Annual Conference 2008 "Opportunities and Rewards for Regional Development through ICT: New Paradigms – New Challenges” offered delegates a very interesting and fully packed programme.
The Conference opened on Wednesday 11th of June, at 20h00. Participants were welcomed with an opening “Cocktail & Barbecue” evening, taking place on the Celtic Manor's rooftop garden and barbeque terrace with views over the Severn Estuary.
There also was the opportunity for delegates to visit Cardiff, the capital of Wales. A trip was organised on the afternoon of the 11th of June at 17h00, arriving back in time for the welcome barbeque. This was a great opportunity to see some of the sights of Cardiff such as Cardiff Castle, Cardiff Bay, The Millennium Stadium, Welsh Millennium Arts Centre and the Welsh Assembly Governments debating chamber, Y Senedd.
On the morning of Thursday 12th of June, eris@ invited high profile speakers who set the scene on “Opportunities and Rewards for Regional Development through ICT: New Paradigms – New Challenges”. The main topics tackled during the day were: e-Crime, e-Inclusion and Broadband. To be noted that the afternoon hosted the speech of Welsh Prime Minister and of a high representative of the European Commission.
For the evening, all delegates were invited to participate to a "Gala Dinner", that took place at the Celtic Manor Resort.
Friday 13th of June opened with two parallel sessions dedicated to the results of two interesting European projects: peardrop and TRANSFORM, focussing, respectively in "Digital Ecosystems" and "Transformative uses of ICT". Feedback from the two parallel sessions and a roundtable on “Priorities and Paradigms for regional Development” opened the afternoon plenary session. The remainder of the day was dedicated to a number of interesting keynote speakers.
